The philosophy of education in Pre – Primary is rooted in the ideology of all round development. It embraces holistic development of children and help them reach their full potential. The play way method, a popular and engaging teaching style, is followed in the Pre -Primary section. This methodology was popularized by Friedrich Froebel who believed that through play, one can actively ensure children’s physical, social, psychological and intellectual development. The play way method emphasizes the importance of child-initiated and child-directed play, giving children the freedom to make choices, solve problems, and express themselves freely. It alleviates the drudgery of learning by engaging them in hands on activities. These activities are designed to align with children’s interests and skills. Real life experiences enable to correlate the lessons with meaning and purpose.
In Pre – Primary section, children range in the age group of three to six years. This is a crucial age in the development of their physical, mental, social and emotional aspects. Children are at various stages of refining their gross and fine motor skills, exploring cognitive abilities and building social relationships paving their way into future academic and personal growth. They learn to self-regulate and be a part of a bigger social setting other than their immediate family members. They become a part of a multi diverse class community which helps to instill empathy and tolerance. These formative years aids in shaping and influencing children’s future success and well-being.
Children in the Pre -Primary section are nurtured to discover, dream, design and deliver. An array of teaching strategies are employed to foster physical, emotional, social, intellectual and overall development of our children. There is scope for whole body learning and movement in the classroom. Activities are orchestrated to spark curiosity and ignite a love for learning. Teaching aids like flashcards, games and art are used to deliver the lessons and help children construct their understanding of the world around them. Motor skills are augmented through a multitude of multi sensorial activities. A good teacher – child rapport is created in the play-way setting. This gives children a sense of security and wellbeing thus ensuring a well-rounded emotional development. Communication and confidence are instilled when children learn to listen, focus, engage and complete an activity as a team. Parents are also involved in the children’s educational journey thereby ensuring a successful school life.
The curriculum in Pre-Primary section is child centric. Teachers don the role of facilitators encouraging children to explore and learn at their own pace. The lessons are paced in an appropriate manner which enables children to adapt through activities and play. Our learners develop their critical thinking, problem solving skills and creativity through hands on activities that are used to teach Language, Mathematics, Environmental Science, Art and Craft. The Pre – Primary section uses in-house books for teaching these core subjects.
English is introduced through phonics which promotes reading readiness, vocabulary enrichment, proper pronunciations, language building and effective communication. Rhymes and stories instill a sense of rhythm, speech clarity and enhance their oral skills.
Math is correlated with everyday life and children enjoy the learning process by manipulating the different aids and props that are provided. Children are taught basic concepts, shapes and mathematical operations. Life lessons on money, time and measurement are included in the curriculum.
Environmental science uses children’s natural curiosity to explore the world around them. They learn about the animal and plant kingdom, neighbourhood, people who help us, solar system and so on. Healthy lifestyle and good habits are taught with appropriate activities.
Every child in the Pre – Primary section gets an opportunity to perform their unique talents in KG –I and KG – II. Music and Physical Education are taught through tailor – made age appropriate lessons. Children develop their agility, team spirit, creativity and interpersonal skills.
The assessment pattern in Pre- Primary section is designed to focus on children’s progress across various skills like gross motor skills, fine motor skills, language skills, numeracy skills, art and craft skills, socio – emotional skills, personal hygiene and environmental awareness. The performances are observed and documented which will give a comprehensive narrative about the children’s development throughout the year. Regular Parent – Teacher interactions are held to discuss children’s progress and collaborate on strategies to support learning and development at home and in the classroom. The traditional testing methods are excluded in the Pre – Primary section. Children are evaluated based on their ability to perform and complete a given activity.
