Bod Indian Schools Oman Organizes Professional Development Programme for Teachers

“Develop a passion for learning, If you do, you will never cease to grow”

Professional development programs allow teachers to widen their horizons of skills, knowledge and creativity fostering a culture of excellence and innovation.

The two-day workshop organized by the Board of Directors, Indian School in the Sultanate of Oman and hosted by Indian School Muscat was an invaluable and enriching learning experience for all the participants who attended physically and online. The Resource Person was Dr Sudha Acharya, Principal, ITL Public School with more than 25 years of progressive experience and accomplishments to her forte. With an array of experience, she has contributed as a dedicated and resourceful professional in the field of education. In her role as a Principal, she has expertise in Curriculum Design, Technology based Educational Development, Multi-criteria Assessment and Evaluation, Multidisciplinary approach towards academic and co-curricular activities.  

Her rich exposure to the IB, Cambridge, and CBSE curricula has empowered her with a diverse and innovative approach as an academic leader. As a Vice President of Association of Special Educators and Allied Professionals, her contributions in the field of special needs children’s education is immense. She is associated with CBSE as a Master Trainer, Counselor and involved in Curriculum Designing.

The Resource Person was given a floral welcome after which the lamp was lit symbolizing, “Thamasoma Jyothirgamaya”.  Mr. Vinoba M.P, Senior Principal and Education Advisor to the Board of Directors welcomed the august gathering followed by the address of Dr. Sivakumar Manickam, Chairman, Board of Directors, Indian Schools Oman.

The PDP that was organized at Indian School Muscat received over 700 participants from 21 schools that came under one roof to enhance the quality of education they impart to their students. 

The first day’s target audience comprised of the teachers of Pre-Primary and Primary sections and the second day’s session focussed on teachers of the Middle and Senior Sections of all Indian Schools in Oman.

Dr.  Sudha Acharya, the eminent and esteemed educator and resource person brought her experience and expertise to inspire the attendees. She introduced a new concept of ‘Holistic Progress Report’ wherein the students will be assessed on their overall development.

She presented well-defined developmental goals to be achieved in the classrooms and classified the learners into various categories. She touched upon the practical implementation of National Education Policy 2020 & NCF, NIPUN Bharat and explained how to develop a Holistic Progress Card. On the second day, the Resource Person emphasized on National Education Policy 2020, its implications and National Curriculum Framework based on NEP 2020.

The sessions aimed to implore compassion towards the noble profession. The eminent educator also introduced the faculty to various learning platforms such as KYC, SWAYAM, DIKSHA, PORTFOLIO, NISHITA, and BUNIYAD associated with Government of India in relation to inclusive education. The session provided a platform for the participants to explore and internalize the significance of empathy, compassion to build strong and harmonious relationships. 

NEP 2020 is considered and presented as a forward-thinking and transformative document, aiming to align education with global agendas while ensuring quality, affordability, and accessibility in a sustainable manner. Dr. Acharya highlighted the paramount importance of foundational literacy in a child’s development, which is a primary focus of NEP. Furthermore, she elaborated on the flexibility of the framework, where there’s no rigid separation between academics and co-curricular activities.

Regarding teachers, NEP 2020 places a strong emphasis on their career progression and capacity building, emphasizing the need for continuous updates in innovative classroom interaction strategies. Dr. Acharya also stressed on the significance of addressing not only academic excellence but also the social and emotional well-being of children.

Ms. Sudha Acharya, the eminent resource person discussed about incorporating accountability, accessibility, equity, equality and gender-sensitive pedagogy in the education system,  the 17 SDGs- Sustainable Development goals, Curriculum Mapping and its orientation and how to involve the community in our activities.

The resource person emphasized on Panchakosh Vikas- the five step learning process that is encouraged as per NCF and Vocational education.

The two-day educational workshop concluded with the Valedictory function wherein the Resource Person was felicitated with mementos. Learning with passion has always borne success. The educators and facilitators walked out of the portals of ISM with greater confidence and zest to their respective schools eager to implement what they had gained during the two days.
